The Houston Progressive Caucus believes endorsements should be earned and not handed out.

Our endorsement process is designed to identify candidates who share our commitment to building a more just, equitable, and progressive Houston. We evaluate candidates based on their values, vision, record, viability, and commitment to the communities they seek to represent.

Candidates seeking our endorsement complete a comprehensive questionnaire and participate in an endorsement interview with members of the Houston Progressive Caucus. Our members then evaluate each candidate based on their positions on the issues, their demonstrated commitment to progressive values, their ability to build a strong campaign, and their character and integrity.

We believe our endorsement should reflect the priorities of our membership, not the interests of political insiders, corporations, or special interests.

After the evaluation process, our membership votes on which candidates to endorse. Candidates who earn our endorsement receive the support of a grassroots organization committed to organizing, mobilizing voters, and building a stronger progressive movement in Houston.

Our endorsement is more than a logo on a campaign website. It is a commitment to stand with candidates who are prepared to fight for working people, protect our communities, and deliver meaningful change.

Our Process

1. Candidate Application
Candidates submit an endorsement questionnaire outlining their positions, priorities, campaign plans, and commitment to progressive values.

2. Candidate Interview
Candidates meet with members of the Houston Progressive Caucus to discuss their vision, record, priorities, and approach to governing.

3. Member Evaluation
Candidates are evaluated based on Progressivism, Viability, and Character—ensuring we consider both what a candidate stands for and their ability to effectively lead.

4. Membership Vote
Our members have the final say. Endorsements are determined through a democratic membership vote.

5. Organizing for Our Endorsed Candidates
Once an endorsement is earned, we work to mobilize our members and broader community around candidates who share our vision for Houston.
